Is this a real medicine?

The name on an offer is the place to begin. “Peptide therapy” is too broad to settle the question.

Which medicine names have approval?

A peptide is a short chain of tiny linked parts. Insulin is a medicine in the peptide group.

FDA is the short name for Food and Drug Administration, the agency handling US medicine approval.

As of September 26, 2026, FDA-approved products include semaglutide, sold as Ozempic and Wegovy, and tirzepatide, sold as Mounjaro and Zepbound.

Approval covers the uses named for that exact product; a similar name does not give other products the same approval.

Find out the product’s exact name and which health problem it would treat. Keep those names in your notes.

A custom medicine is a different kind of product

Compounding means making or changing a medicine for a patient’s particular needs.

Compounded medicines are not FDA-approved, as of September 26, 2026.

The FDA does not check that custom product for safety, quality or benefit before it reaches patients.

A patient’s medical need may call for a custom medicine if approved medicines cannot meet it.

One example is leaving out a dye because the patient is allergic to it.

The pharmacy also has to follow federal ingredient rules. If an official drug-quality standard exists for an ingredient, the pharmacy must meet it. If no standard exists, the pharmacy can use the ingredient only if it appears in an approved medicine or on the FDA’s allowed list.

For each ingredient in your medicine, ask the pharmacy to name the rule that permits its use.

A lower price does not by itself make a compounded copy lawful.

A useful question is: what is the medical reason for a custom version in my case?

“For research” does not mean ready for treatment

The FDA says research-labelled weight-loss products sold for people can be harmful and have unknown quality, as of September 26, 2026.

Calling something “research” does not make it lawful to market that product for human treatment.

Ask the licensed person who would examine you about the exact medicine. A research label is not a reason to trust the product.
